Case study · Healthcare data platform
Redox
Redox's healthcare data exchange platform lets engineers build applications that exchange patient data across healthcare systems. Every customer previously had to work directly with sales and support to get onboarded. I led a team of two designers, three PMs, and several engineers to create Redox's first self-service SaaS platform.

The vision
Enable any engineer to sign up without sales or support.
We organized healthcare data into logical “Actions” that aligned with how engineers think about their use cases. Each Action contained the relevant data fields — dramatically reducing complexity while giving developers precise control over their data exchanges.

Getting connected
Straightforward testing with real-time feedback on every connection.
Testing tools let engineers verify integrations without leaving the platform. Each Action includes inline documentation, test messages, and real-time status showing whether messages were received.

Creating a community
A marketplace that turns weeks of coordination into instant discovery.
Developers could discover healthcare organizations already connected to Redox — see who's available, which Actions they support, and initiate connections directly. It replaced a weeks-long process of manual coordination and sales involvement.

Finding a partner
Clear requirements upfront eliminate surprises.
Each organization's data-exchange requirements are displayed before connecting, so developers can prepare documentation in advance instead of discovering requirements through legal departments mid-process.

Processing paperwork
Agreements and payments in one session, not days of emails.
Developers review and sign agreements, provide company information, and set up billing in a single flow — replacing days of back-and-forth with legal departments and sales teams.

Monitor and measure
Live monitoring and troubleshooting for every data exchange.
Each connection displays activity metrics, success rates, and error logs — visibility that was entirely new to the platform, letting developers maintain and optimize integrations independently.

Outcome
Onboarding went from weeks to hours — for engineering teams of any size, from startups to enterprise.
The self-service platform freed sales and support to focus on high-priority customers. Beyond the product, we helped Redox establish a cohesive product development process — frameworks and practices that outlasted the engagement.
